Elderly woman hit by car on pelican crossing

Pedestrian deaths on pedestrian crossings are unfortunately, a fairly routine event. On the zebra crossing closest to my house, a woman was knocked down and killed by a car. These are just local news stories and hardly ever make it to the Daily Mail.

Quite a surprise, considering it was a serious collision. I thought this would be a Porsche/Ferrari, or something that was going too fast to stop

Why?....any car is a dangerous implement.

Similar in Sheffield this week, a driver hit two pedestrians on the crossing from the train station. Very well lit area, though the majority on social media are blaming the slippery road surface for the poor drivers misfortune.

Seems simple to me. Park a CCTV camera there and send a £130 fine to everyone who goes through. No appeals. Drivers used to drive in bus lanes when they were first installed in London. Then the fines started dropping on the doormats and lo & behold, they stopped.
True, but this is temporary during roadworks. I imagine the paperwork involved would mean the crossing is gone before they got permission for the camera.

Personally I'd take their cars off them. Maybe if they tried walking somewhere they'd discover how difficult it is to cross the road safely.

"I sincerely hope she's ok and fair play to the copper who went over to the car with the boom boom music on at full belt while his passenger was attempting to take pictures of her lying in the road, I thought he was going to punch him one. A pity he didn't!"

It's things like that that makes you wonder what is happening to make people behave in that manner. The Policeman should be congratulated on his actions.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have respect for ordinary PCs. Young men and women not paid a great deal and must have the patience of a saint. Yet able to carry out society's dirty work. In general, top people.

Thread revival time.

There i was at a pelican crossing this evening waiting for the green man to appear,so i could cross safely,or should i say safely in theory?! As the green for go came on,the vehicle to my right stopped. I then looked to my left to see some twat approach the crossing at speed and accelerate over the crossing, while the lights were on red for vehicles! I then looked at the driver of the vehicle on my right that'd stopped, expecting him to shake his head at twat's actions. Instead he just looked at me with a vacant expression,as if to say "what are you ranting about"? It's becoming the norm' now for drivers to become oblivious to other drivers bad actions. Seriously, it's not even safe now crossing a pelican crossing, which are supposed to be much safer than zebra crossings! I wished death on the scum who went through that red light! He wasn't even a boy racer type, more someone in his 40's driving a small '04 plate Hyundai.

The standard of car driving is very low in this country, a lot of them don't even understand the highway code. Yesterday an elderly woman drove straight at me over a narrow bridge when I was coming from the other side and I set off first, She should have waited until I got over but instead set off an pushed me into the bridge wall. I was really fuming. I will have to use the path in future because there's going to be an accident on there. People just think of themselves all the time that's the problem and damn everyone else.

Could you not have enticed him into your microwave like the last living creature that annoyed you?

I think there's a camera on top of one of the lights in question. If there is,will it be recording all the time? 🤔 I fancy making a complaint. Driving without due care and attention charges should be brought on this 2 hat!!🧐

disagree to be honest - i think that's one of those anti-brit commonplaces.
I ride and walk round London a lot so have plenty of time to observe drivers while in a somewhat prone position.
I know somewhere that is truly appalling with pedestrian crossings.
There are of course jerks everywhere, and SOME here.

I know it is an old thread but the police are getting much stricter with idiots filming crash scenes.
The current mentality of having to film ever aspect of your life is really odd.

A few years ago a cyclist was killed and was lying on the road, no one for a while even checked that he was dead they were all just filming and it was put on Facebook!. The family and friends had to go to Mark Zuckerberg to get it removed and banned. Its just unbelievable really. You would think someone would at least do basic checks and put their coat over him. Its just savage.
