Went into their Manchester store today and found them to be really helpful and I will be buying a bike in the next few weeks. They guy in the shop seemed pretty knowledgeable but just wondered what other people's experience of their bike setting up is?

I did consider Halfords and a Subway but was put off by so many stories of their technicians being lousy and just wanted to get a view on EBC? Heard nothing but good about them in terms of product but can anyone comment further?

Cheers.

I dont think i've ever heard a bad word said against EBC whether its been about their products or their service

I know plenty of people who like EBC very much - both keen cyclists and newbies. I know there are plenty of folk on here who like them as well. I'd say the only reason I've not used them is convenience - I don't live near a shop and tend to use other on line retailers. I've been in the Manchester shop though, just for a browse, and liked what I saw (product and service).

I'm sure there'll be plenty of folk along to give more info soon.

Never heard anything bad about their mechanics - I'd be fairly confident getting a bike from them.

Only thing that puts me off using them more than I do is that their pricing often isn't all that competitive, but it varies between product lines.

+1, to that.

I've used the one in Edinburgh - no probs whatsoever! I've also bought a Revolution bike(EBC own brand) and would recommend them.

All staff become shareholders in the company - and I think they only employ cycle enthusiasts, not just shop assistants.

I agree that prices could be more competitive - but I try to buy from them when they have sales on(every three months or so), as do many CCers.

I've found sometimes that they are a victim of their own success, they're too busy and its hard getting hold of a member of staff but once you get hold of them they've plenty of time for you.

+1, I agree.

Especially around the "sales" time I've mentioned.

Used EBC to purchase my Tricross on the C2W and can only echo HLab's obesrvations. I did get the brakes changed under warranty (fork judder), they sent the replacement parts out to me (I live 2 hours north of Edinburgh) allowed me to take the Tricross to my local LBS and EBC paid the LBS to do the work.
This was a great arrangement for me as my LBS is directly opposite my place of work.
I also have some of their own brand clothing which is also very good given the price point.

Comments seem generally positive then so I'll give them a shot in a couple of weeks when I can next get in there.

Given the choice between EBC and Halfrauds, it has to be EBC every time. Fortunately round here we have a number of good bike shops, several better than EBC, but none as bad as Halfrauds...

if its the Leeds one they are excellent. Good service, good mechanics and all round good guys. I had to return a stand as it didnt suit my purposes, no problen at all. It has over time become my favourite bike shop.

Only been to the Leeds branch- always really good. The new Sheffield branch has 15% off until the end of the month- you need a voucher that they'll send you if you apply on the site. (PM me if they've stopped the promo- I'll forward mine.)

Got my first bike there through BTW and would've got it's replacement there too had Evans not price-matched the discount price.
