He does like ruined castles. Thinking of blackness Castle. Edinburgh Castle would be OK if someone had blown it up a bit first! ;)

bus down to Leith, then follow the water of leith path up to the botanic gardens - pot of tea & cake - then across Inverleith park (in front of the incredible Fettes College building) to Stockbridge (more tea and cake) then bus up to Morningside and have a meal at the Cannyman, then walk back through Morningside and the Grange to the Meadows (fantastic Sausage Van that does Black Pudding & Haggis Sausage rolls - then back into the Old Town - pint in Sandy Bells - and the don't rub the dogs nose when you pass it, folk might think you're a tourist - they ruin the place

Well the things we booked for Hogmanay are all paying out refunds. So thank you for that Edinburgh. Don't think we'll bother doing it again.

Still, we might do a few long weekends here. The trams work well, certainly better than sitting in a traffic jam in a bus that's for certain.

Just hope your snow doesn't stop us getting home. South then A1m to relatives then a few days later over the pennines. That last drive might be hairy.

job stopped due to weather. Again. Make you own entertainment. The residents of Edinburgh thank you for your cash. Please form an orderly queue on your way out of the city limits.

It doesn't look that bad according to BBC weather. Westerly winds 40/50 mph and some rain. Pretty standard fare for Scotland at any time of year!
However the Health and Safety gestapo will have had the final decision 🙄.

Is heavy rain south and west with the snow moved further north and east in the yellow warning area from just south of the Glasgow to Edinburgh Central belt to the north of Scotland.

Whatever it will be right now edinburgh is a horrible drizzle that fades them comes in strong then fades again. When it's in strong its like walking through water mist sat in the air. Horrible it is. Would rather see heavy rain!

Hogmanay is off so early nights in the hotel out of the clag I reckon. We could have done that at home for a lot less. Plus we have some nice single malts and nice sipping rums too!

Still, at home there's no place like Mother India or two nights ago Mowglis Both do a nice curry but both at totally different mowglis is kinda modern what with chairs that are swings and food in tiffin tins. Mother India is closer to a british Indian restaurant but with better food and slightly more authentic I think. Best I've ever had I think.

I think the best I ever see the Old Town is on dark damp dreich winters days when the streets are deserted - has an intimidating air of foreboding. the rest of the time it is ruined by crowds.

Edinburgh's wonderful - just love the place, always somewhere to go

And graffiti too it seems, lots of tagging in every nook and cranny of the old town all the way to the meadows. Is that a dodgy area or just a student one?

The GLW and I decided to spend a day in Edinburgh a few years back, so took the early bus from Dundee and went looking for somewhere that would serve a decent Scottish brekky.
Went around looking, found plently of poncy eateries, cafes etc., ended up in the BHS cafe - !
At least it was a decent brekky including Lorne sausage - ! :okay:
