I'd never heard of him before yesterday, but he seems like he was a very talented man.

Morecambe and Wise 1973 Christmas show (got link off a Guardian blog entry about Eddie Braben.
Presuming a lot of it is EB's writing, it's great stuff.
Added to my 'watch when I get time' list

Braben wrote all the scripts, he was also responsible for turning the pair away from their tired one line deliveries that they copied from Abbot and Costello and pointed them toward the similar vein of Laurel and Hardy, two idiots even though one of them doesn't realise he's an idiot. He also came up with the surreal notion of them sharing a bed without homosexual overtones.
He always said the Christmas special sketch with Andre Previn was the best sketch he ever wrote saying he would never change one word of it!
His book' The Book That I Wrote, is a must read for any fan of British comedy, I can recommend it, my wife got me a signed copy for Christmas a few years back, a much treasured possession!

The punchline of "I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order" has to be one of the best gags ever written. Pure comedy gold:laugh: .RIP Eddie.

Am I the only person on the planet that never found them to be even remotely funny? :B)

Good grief!

I love that sketch, partly for the lines, but partly for the whole absurd situation (jumping up to avoid the lid of the piano blocking Eric's view of Previn), and partly for the fact that you can see some of the orchestra (the BBC Philarmonic or similar) cracking up in the background.

I don't think I can name a favourite M and W skit. As soon as I think of one, I think of another I adore just as much.

Thank you Mr Braburn.:bravo:

Personally I never found the Two Ronnies funny!
Good grief!

Both these sketches were written by Dick Hills and Sid Green the two writers M&W used at ITV. They showcase the pairs Music hall beginnings.
They were in desperate need of a revamp and that was the genius move of Bill Cotton in matching Braben with the pair of them.
Prince Philip upset Braben when he was introduced to him as the writer by saying ''Oh I just thought they made it up''.
Being unaware of the duo's insistence on having at least ten hours rehearsal with the 'guest star' on each episode.
