I do feel sorry for him. Its not a nice thing to go through at that age.
That said, I will be saving most of this weeks sympathy quota for the unfortunate old guy who drove off with his 80k life savings in a bag on the roof of his car, never to be seen again. Says he's never claimed a bean from the state and all his life saved for his retirement with cash. He says he now faces an old age in poverty.

Well, I can feel sorry for him, but leaving 80 grand in a bag on the roof of your car is a pretty bloody stupid thing to do. Carrying your entire life savings around with you in the first place is a bit daft.

As much as thats terrible news, what was he bloody thinking? If I was carrying around that amount of money (especially if it was my life savings) first of all, I probably wouldn't. I'd take it in different journeys. I 'd be ultra careful and probably chain it to my wrist. I certainly wouldn't put it on my car roof. Wow, hope things turn out OK for him.

Come on guys, he is an old man. We'll all be there eventually.
When I was 30 I drove into Liverpool city centre and parked in the Paradise St. multistory carpark.
I got the shopping I went for, had a spot of lunch and two hours later was on the train on my way
back home.
I hadn't even had a drink so I couldn't blame that!

£80k though!! Just chucked in a bag. I feel for the bloke, it's terrible, but a silly move on his part.

You stories quiet funny though, but there was minimal risk of you losing your car.

What about the guy who left his rare violin, worth about £200k IIRC, on the train - how did he manage that? Not sure if he ever got it back.

It was a case of bows he'd been given for repairing, if I recall correctly. He put them on the overhead
luggage rack, then dozed off, and they were gone when he woke up five minutes later. Entirely understandable in a way that sticking 80 grand in a bag and driving off with it on the roof of your car, er, isn't.

Thinking about it, I don't wear any jewellery whatsoever... I had a watch that cost 35 quid, but it broke

I do own a very nice handmade suit.

It was handmade for someone else though. Charity shops are wonderful things.
