I bought a low value item from Ebay, a Energiser mobile phone charger. When it arrived (eventually, but that's another story), it's the wrong one; not Motorola as ordered but Nokia.

The seller won't refund return postage (didn't expect them to in honesty, they're making bugger all as it is, but I had to ask) and it'd cost me as much to return it as the item actually cost me in the first place. So I'll not bother returning it for refund. As it happens it's not a huge problem as I can make up a Motorola cable but, in an ideal word, I shouldn't have to. We all make mistakes, I understand that, but it was the seller's mistake. So my thoughts turn to how to reflect this in the feedback, if at all.

If I mark him down for shipping the wrong item, he'll probably mark me down too (he was quite abrupt in an email so I half expect him to). So I'll probably not bother with leaving feedback either.... defeats the purpose doesn't it?

Sellers can't leave negative feedback anymore.

As 3BMG says, he cant leave a negative to a buyer. Judging by his attitude, neg him. Sh1t happens, but a good seller will sort it. I brought a phone case the other week from a big seller, 10,000 plus feedbacks. It was cracked when i got it. Contacted him and he immediately sent another one FOC. Thats the kind of service a buyer deserves.
Teach your seller a lesson and do other buyers a favour and let them know what he's really like.

It's probably that, more than anything else, that would lead me to leave negative feedback.

I didn't realise he couldn't -ve me... that makes my decision a little easier. I'll not rave though. As I say, we all make mistakes.

Anyone can make a mistake, it's how they deal with the mistake when it's brought to their attention that's important. Neg him, and make sure he knows why you've done it. Or, if it makes you feel better, ask him to send you the right item out and tell him you'll be leaving negative feedback if he doesn't.

I didn't receive an item recently and I gave neutral. It's hard to know if it's something to do with the delivery service.
Still haven't received the item though.Doubt I will now.

Have you had a look here -> What to do if you don't receive an item or it doesn't match the seller's description

If the seller sent you the wrong item it is up to them to make it right without it costing you anything extra, if he refuses open a case against him.

When you sell items over the internet you have to abide by the distance selling regs you cant just send out anything you like and refuse to put it right when you make a mistake.

Yes. The seller is under no obligation to refund the return postage price. There's no shortage of buyers complaining about this very point on the ebay answers' forum.

bad idea... there are strict rules regarding 'feedback extortion'
If the vendor does what he is supposed to do, then there wouldn't be a need for negative feedback and he wouldn't get it.

If he fails in his duty to the buyer, he deserves negative feedback and will get it!

I wouldn't call that 'extortion', I'd say it is a simple statement of fact.

I've had an ebay account for nearly ten years and in that time I've only ever left one negative feedback, for someone who sold me a record he subsequently sold elsewhere. Although he promised a refund it never came and I only left the feedback when he became aggressive after I'd chased him up for the third or forth time. I've never received negative feedback as a seller because I always resolve issues even when I'm sure someone is trying it on.

Really a seller should give feedback to the buyer when he's received the money, that's the buyer's job done really. But they don't because they're fearful of the buyers feedback so hang back. I think a lot feedback ends in a stalemate with each party waiting to see what the other will do.

It's a shame the way people are with feedback now. I've given loads more positive feedbacks than I've received even though there's been no problem with the deal.

I still use it a bit but not like I used to when it was always the first port of call.

I've had 2 bad experiences with sellers - one who sent the goods damaged and incomplete and another who was hiding the fact that the goods weren't authentic. That was enough for me. Feedback didn't come into it - I haven't bought there since.

I don't use it at all any longer a seller either because I don't do PayPal and they won't let me sell without offering it.

I left -ve feedback once items once or twice. One was a Windows XP installation disk that wouldn't install. I tried e-mailing them but they didn't reply. They contacted me later and put it right, and I ten changed my feedback. It turned out my e-mail had gone to their junk box. I seem to remember it's quite difficult to leave -ve feedback without going through some complicated resolution process, so I just leave the lowest feedback I can with a short message. The feedback system has become farcical. Not only is it difficult to leave -ve feedback, sellers often urge you to leave 5 stars for everything, because anything less is considered -ve.
