My new wheels are tubeless-ready, but seemingly not ready for actual tyres because both the Michelin Pro4 Endurance and Vittoria Zaffiros are really tough to get on. The Zaffiros are easier, but feel a harder ride than the Michelins which I'm used to.

So can anyone suggest tyres that are traditionally easier to get on a wheel? 25-28mm, road tyre, tread not important, some puncture protection but not to Marathon standards, not Contis, and ideally <£25 per tyre. My thumbs will be forever in your debt.

Depends a lot on your rims too. Some are just slightly bigger.

If you push the tyre into the centre of the rim you do get a few more mm to play with and that might make a difference.

Marathon plus have a rep for being tight but they've been fine on my rims.

Would tubeless be simpler?

I've never had a particular issue getting Vittoria Rubinos off and on (next level up from Zaffiros, but still in budget if you look around) and I'm rubbish at fitting tyres!!

I'm not really sold on tubeless for small road tyres - the balance of stories seem to show as much hassle with them as tubes, they seem to be much more effective on high volume/low pressure tyres on mountain bikes than the high pressure/low volume tyres that road bikes use. Punctures aren't so much of a problem that I'd switch for that reason.

Marathon Plus are tight but plain Marathon are OK for fit.

Something a bit more sporty than Marathon, I have those on my commuter bike. Maybe what the racers use for a winter training tyre.

Conti 4 seasons
I had problems with sidewalls on those tyres, and reading up it seems to be a not uncommon Conti thing so I'm trying to avoid them. So if there's a tyre inbetween the 4Seasons and the Michelin Endurance then that's the tyre I'm looking for.

I'm enjoying Schwalbe Ones on two of my three bikes. They roll well and I find them easy to get on and off. Prices vary wildly, but with a bit of hunting you may find them around your budget.

Spa often have good prices on Schwalbe tyres. Merlin and High on bikes can be competitively priced too :okay:
