In 1985 I was working in a (shared) workshop where some guys were designing an e-bike very much like the small-wheeled one in this video. One day I used it for a test ride - they wanted volunteers - I tried a 10 mile commute through (mostly flat) London to get home. The battery didn't make it. I had to return the bike on the train next day.
