ok i feel i need a rant here, i have dyslexia i struggle to read and my spelling is quite bad as is some of my grammar and my punctuation is almost non-existent. as some of you may of noticed in some of my posts.
but here is the thing that gets me mad, is when folk start having a go at posters for the way they have spelt something or the way they use there grammar and punctuation.
well let me tell you something i have 8 O levels, 12 NVQ and 2 city and guilds qualifications. i ran a successful building and decorating business for 12 years only giving it up due to injury,
yes i know there is a thing called spell checker and there is things called dictionary. but how the hell do you look up how to spell something in a dictionary if you dont have a clue how its spelt. and spell checker isnt much better yes it gives me loads of suggestions on how something is spelt but i dont know which suggestion is the one i want because im dyslexic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have been to adult learning classes and even back to collage to try and learn to spell but i just cant do it. you give me some tools and materials i can build you just about anything but give me something to read or Wright and i will struggle. and as far as im concerned i dont care we are all different and we all have different talents and failings. so instead of having a go at someone for the way they have written something is pathetic and maybe you should look at yourself because i bet your not perfect either.
i have 2 thoughts at this point
1) if you have read it and understood it well enough to know that a word is wrong then where is the problem you understood thats all that matters....
2) if you dont like the way i post then dont read my posts you twat ???????

disclaimer:
this post is NOT directed at anyone nor is it directed at any other post, this is just a general observation that i have made and encountered on this and other site from a select few ignorant idiots that think just because someone cant spell they deserve to be humiliated and abused

... and breathe...

But yes, too many threads get derailed by someone pointing out spelling errors when, as you say, if they have understood what is meant, then where is the problem!

Don't let others drag you down.

Worked with kids with similar problems and so long as they knew what they had put down & were able to explain it to me, I was happy with working that way.

Question is, do you know what you mean? If the answer is yes, then don't let the nay sayers put you down.

And for those doubters on here, take a look at his work in Special Intrests & ask yourself, "Could I do that?"

I think there is a difference between those whose posts - all of them - clearly indicate an ... (and I'm probably using the wrong word here but I hope you'll understand) ... 'issue' with their spelling and grammar and those who are just too lazy to bother to check what they have written.

Anyone who has read your posts @stuee147 cannot help but be amazed, in awe (and highly envious ) of your clear thought processes, technical skill/ ability to translate those to practical works and to admire the beauty of the finished result !

OK, so your spelling and grammar might not be as good as, say, mine - but I am very envious of your metal-work and welding skills, in addition to your other mechanical knowledge and ability. My spelling/grammar don't bring as much of a  (or £££ :headshake:) to me as your welding etc do to you !

I'm just waiting to see your Trike Mk 2 in the flesh :wahhey: and have a 'bent ride-out ! :hyper:

im glad to see im not the only one that has noticed it. i know what you mean @Scoosh there are some people that do just seem to be lazy when it comes to posting. i do like to read through things and at least try to get it right.
i dont really let it bother me but sometimes it just seems to get to me the way some people make it out to be an assault on them personally just because of bad spelling.

If only we communicated through the medium of dance......

you think my spellings bad if i used dance you wouldn't understand a word lol:laugh:

Unfortunately, it won't be obvious to some people that you are dyslexic - however that doesn't excuse anyone being pedantry and nit-picking at your spelling or grammar (instead of responding to the content / context of your posts) - so please use the report button to let me and the rest of the moderator team know when it happens; hopefully we'll be able to address it and put things back on track.

Cheers,
Shaun

I am certainly guilty of pointing out the odd slip up, but it is usually not meant with malice or any sense of superiority, rather, its for a joke (usually obvious).

I was brought up to write things as well as you could (whether it has worked will no doubt be up for debate), it also helped that I was great at spelling (I probably would have done well in Spelling Bs if we had had them at school).
As such, I used to moan at people who didn't write properly until I realised that, actually, language is constantly evolving, so you can't preserve things at a set date (the French tried that a few years ago) and besides, it is all down to how someone said you should write things a few hundred years ago. Who says they were right?

As a result, yes, I will try to get the spelling and basic grammar in my posts right (you might be able to criticise my posts on many things, but spelling normally isn't one of them), often meaning I edit things, but, it is just that, nothing more!

I really will need to learn how to write properly for my own benefit though.
