Duvets - worth cleaning?

Do you have a duvet that weighs more than 6kg?!

Am i missing something? We have a bed 200cm wide and 220cm long. We use two duvets. Each 120cm wide and 200cm long. I don't know the TOG value. We chuck them in the washer every once in a while, and then straight into the dryer - together. We don't live in the tropics.

Edit - I think they weigh about a kilo each.

I think the issue with most domestic machines is the volume.

I guess your machine has a large drum.

Mine is rather small.

As @Blue Hills says, @Stephenite.
Also, the duvets here are much bulkier than the ones you got "up north" lol
I notice this when I go visit my relatives in Germany: the duvet quality is much better, they are less bulky, lighter, compared to the ones we get here.
I guess the standard is better: you can buy similar good quality duvets in shops like John Lewis, of course the price is much higher.
I don't spend more than £12 on a double, "disposable" one.

Every few years I scrape off the worst of the skid marks and put on a new duvet cover.

That said, when Mrs D thinks I'm not looking I'm sure she slips them in the washing machine every 6 months or so.

It's looking like it's going to be chucked then.

Recyled into sprocket cleaning rags - at least the outer.

It is sort of heavy.

Think I'll go for this kind of german spec thing.

I too have noticed @Pat "5mph" that some apparently lightweight duvets can be surprisingly warm.

It's like technical clothing I guess - its the quality of the tech insulation that matters, not the sheer bulk.
I have several duvets - in truth I dread to think how old this one is - I won't even speculate online for fear of @meta lon launching a nuclear attack on it.

Does anyone use blankets any more?
on top of the duvet when it gets especially cold. I have a blanket somewhere my parents got as a wedding present. When Britain still made stuff.
As a student in a leaky windowed house, I used a tip from my dad's national service days and put an RAF greatcoat on top of the duvet - doubtless no duvets in his national service days but army/RAF surplus stuff was kinda trendy in my circles back in the 80s - not sure what happened to that valued coat - cost me about £12 I think. Very warm.

I do, in summer.
Not old fashioned blankets, more like throws over bed sheets.
Summer nights can be cold here.

I remember the days when we called them 'continental quilts'
me too.
Possibly around the time, as a kid, of Brentford Nylons.

all terribly modern.

I still have fevered dreams, of, many years later, staying in a scottish B&B that had nylon sheets.

"nylon" and "sheets" are two words that should not be allowed to collide.

Possibly the Brits were the only folks to think it was a good idea.
