I can endorse GGB too. Just had one out too, lovely lady Miss Tulip, totally painless. Tried for sedation cos I was terrified too but NHs dont seem to do it. needed some root canal work last year ... £ 850 ... Id rather die than spend that on a tooth so I had it out and bought a bike:biggrin:

I'd just like to take this opportunity to mention that I came away for my 6-month checkup last week with nothing needing done

(Only the third time in my entire life that's happened ! I am petrified of dentists, but I have to admit that since I moved to my new surgery when my last dentist did a runner, my fearhas lessened. They're far more professional, and at last I've been having treatment that really has been pain-free.)

I went private because I've got a health scheme through work. Silly pompous me, thinking the treatment would be better. He was a nasty piece of work and only cared about the money. I haven't been back since the crown dropped off 3 months after it was done and he charged £40 just to glue it back on!

NHS is best - if you can get them that is....

FFFF - what is your story..??;)

well, the dentist could see I was not in a good state and did offer to cancel appointment (no charge, private!) so I could come back later but I could not see what would change then, said so, and told him to get on with it.

The process it self is not too bad, one push from one side, one from another, grab with forceps, one push and nothing as it was out.

I think it was more of a mental thing, the thought of loosing the tooth that I'll never have again affected more than the physical process. And no, I didn't cry but you know how dusty these surgeries are. :birthday:

Anyways it is done until the next time.

Well I had to have 1 of my wisdom teeth removed last time I went and after the 4 injections to numb the pain, which were chuffing painful to start with, I then had to grip the bed tightly to hold on as it then took him over ten minutes of pulling with what looked like an industrial pair of pliers.

In the end it needed him to put his knee on the side of the bed for extra leverage before it came out. There was this almighty crack sound  and my first thoughts were "oh no the chuffing thing has snapped" :becool: before this monster tooth came out thankfully intact.

The plus side being that for an examination, x ray, extraction, scale and polish it came to a bargain total of £ 47.00

Feckinghell. Who did it - the local butcher

Yours reminds me of when I had mine out. When I woke up my chesticles were really sore. My mom (who was a nurse at the time) got the surgeon to wind me up and say he had to kneel on my chest to get them out.

I believed them and thought I was clever telling anyone that would listen...... It wasn't till nearly 10 years later did I find out the bad chest was a result of anaesthetic and fagging it. :becool:

That's NHS dentistry for you! the price- not the standard of service (I Think)

My bro is a dentist (newly qualified) and he's a dab hand at extraction - they actually push first to break the nerves and the hold on the gum, then it's straight out....
