It's only a truly fearsome prospect if it's an impacted wisdom tooth. It shouldn't be as bad as you expect - but not an enticing prospect I grant you;)

Er, no its not! Any visit to the dentist is a truly fearsome prospect!;)

02GF74 - you have my sympathy.Unfortunately, what you actually need is sedation... Really is the only way to go - I highly recommend it.
And rich is probably right about it not being as bad as you think. (note - I only said "probably"...)

Good Luck..

02G, i'm genuinely not just saying this to placate you...i had a tooth out this time last year....i dont know what the hell all the fuss and worry was about.

The techniques changed so much since i last had one removed...its a world apart. I'd sooner have them pulled than filled now ;)

And there was no 'yanking'....by my experience, those days have gone. Its a much much gentler process.

not a wisdom - had one when a teenager or early 20s so can't remember much, but other 3 were done under general, one being impacted!!!

Reckon I am developing an irration fear of dentist, toothpullingaphobia, they are gonna have to strap me to the chair or I am gonna run out the door......

Sedation with injections is the only way to go. I used to have a dentist who'd knock me right out but they're hard to find nowadays. Last time I had sedation I felt everything.

I've got a problem with a gold crown on a molar (think the tooth underneath has cracked) and I'm shitting it to even make an appointment. ;)

Good luck.

You're not alone ;)

I had all 4 wisom teeth out at once, under GA. The stitches were bloody horrible! Also had 15 teeth out as a kid, 1 took out the roof of my mouth. Is it no wonder we have a phobia.

<trembles at the thought>

I love going I do not know why but I do

But 2.30 is a bit of a pain for me. ;)

Aahhh - Chinese dentist jokes are the best - one of my faves

Sympathy. I've just got back from a filling. No real pain just the horrible vibration from drilling.
The guy is actually very good, best dentist I've ever been to for treatment to the point that a visit to him doesn't bother me too much.

I do too, every 6 months without fail for check up clean & polish.
I have a fantastic Dentist... nice, young, very good looking indian lady...
Of whom I do not mind having her fingers in my gob...

My sympathies 02GF74.

I had four milk teeth taken out as they weren't falling out as a 14 year old. The dentist then pulled down the adult teeth. Except he didn't do too good a job and pushed two of them up into my sinuses. So I had to have a three day stay in hospital to correct it all. I must have had a million stitches and threw up on the nurse when she came to give me a bed bath.

Bloody dentists.

Rest easy snapper. I cracked a molar in Cyprus two years ago. I dont like dentists, and put up with it (it didnt actually give me that much aggro). But then bits started coming off and got worse and worse. Got to the stage where i HAD to do something...1 year later  The whole tooth was in two pieces. Sh1t myself i tell you
I cant tell you how effortless that extraction was. The put some kind of clamp on the tooth now...manipulate it or something...put a different clamp on....2 or 3 minutes later, its out

No pulling, no force, no pain after the injections. Amazing..

Honestly? I haven't had a tooth pulled without complete sensory depravation. Perhaps I should book an appointment and get it over with.

Thanks gbb
