When I see someone riding mid-foot I just wonder who taught them to ride a bike...

No one manufactures a shoe with mid mounted cleat holes. There must be a reason for that.

Actually there are, not many & the ones that do are all extremely high end shoe manufacturers.

I had a look - and the one guy who makes them hasn't really had anything in the news since 2009. I don't think he is a high end manufacturer, the shoes are expensive because it is an esoteric market. I had a brief scan of the "literature" on the interwebs, and I can't believe it would be a good position for anyone doing any mixed riding. Long rides on flattish roads, maybe.

Well I have a list of about 10 manufactures which are small batch/one off high end outfits. Mid-foot is weak on changes of pace or power, but you can get around that with oval chainrings, beyond that you're generally better off with a mid-foot cleat for endurance riding.
