The DVLA send you to court, not the police. Even if you fail to revalidate it the licence itself is still current, so you commit no moving traffic offence, so the police don't care.

It's the DVLA who are the enforcement authority, and seeing as they knew the very minute you licence expired and still didn't try to punish you...

It's cheaper to drive without a license and Insurance

Jordan Rymill, North Street, Rawmarsh, aged 27, driving without a valid licence or insurance, £110 fine, £85 costs.

Keith Lowcock, Harris Road, Armthorpe, Doncaster, aged 40, driving without a licence or insurance, no plea indicated found guilty, six months’ driving ban, £600 fine, £85 costs;

Daniel Christopher Clark, aged 27, of Bolton Road, Bolton; driving without a licence, £140 fine, £255 costs; driving without insurance, no separate penalty.

Alistair Lawson, aged 20, of Ravenscliffe Avenue, Ravenscliffe; driving without insurance, £440 fine, £279 costs, licence endorsed; driving without a licence, no separate penalty.

I only have a paper licence and had a scary thought the other day that it might be (over)due for renewal :ohmy:.

Not to worry, it's ok till 2020 or something equally far away ... :heat:
And when you get your new card, check your categories. There have been some stories of categories being removed that shouldn't have been.
+1 to this. I don't know if it still happening, but when the photocard licence was introduced there were many cases of motorcyclists losing their category A from their licences. To get it reinstated, you need proof that you have passed the appropriate test, but if you passed it in the 70s (like I did) they will have no record of it, and unless you have kept your pink pass slip for 40+ years, neither will you. ALWAYS take a photocopy of all the relevant info before sending your licence away.
