Drivers using mobile phones

I've only spoke to a driver about it once.

I explained to her that if she's going to use her phone while driving, she might want to change out of her police uniform first, otherwise it might get her in a bit of trouble

You see that all the time, really annoys me when you see the police fly on the wall programs where you see them fiddling with their radios/phones whilst in a chase, meanwhile the passenger is sitting there looking out of the window!!!!

No! It's illegal at all times.

I know it's illegal at all times, but if there is no Police around they think they are not doing anything illegal!!!!

The only way your going to stop it is with higher penalty, but to make it work you need more police something we ain't got

I disagree with a higher penalty though. For a minor offence you often get punished more than someone who has committed a criminal act, e.g. theft, assault etc.

What should be done is the law changed in that if you cause an accident whilst on the phone it is treated as a much more serious offence and should have a decent minimum jail time, especially if they kill someone

A higher penalty means nothing if it's not going to be enforced.
