Sorry the forks are carbon
I guessed they were track forks - undrilled track forks are mostly designed not to be used with a front brake and are therefore likely to fail if you drill them. Some track forks (old school ones) are available in drilled or undrilled - such forks would be suitable for drilling with the correct tooling. I suspect your carbon forks are not suitable for drilling and braking forces have not been considered in the design/manufacture

don't do it!

Go on, don't be a pussy. What is the worst that can happen apart from a snapped crown as you hit a speedbump at 25mph then find your head-tube 1m off the ground with nothing to fend off gravity.

The shop said that the forks can be easily drilled but after reading members comments I contacted the manufacturer and they say absolutely not to do it. The shop then say although the forks can be easily drilled they don't recommend it, they even described how to do it. Is this doublespeak or am I wrong for not checking this out further before buying?

I wouldn't do it, your putting a weak spot in your forks, just buy some designed to take the type of brake you intend to fit.

The shop are right, it is very easy to drill holes in Carbon Fibre, it's just a bad idea. :B)

I know that you are going for the laffs but I am informed that if the fork is carbon but the steerer is aluminium what you are drilling into is the latter

You are weakening the bonded area between the 2 different materials by drilling into it. Seriously listen to what you have quoted as the manufacturers advice.
