Parasites and ignorant twat's. Seems to describe to me perfectly the person who wrote this line, ungenerous tight git also springs to mind.

If I can help somebody by giving them a bit of a tow from time to time I will happily do so, what goes around comes around I find in this life.

This is they type of attitude we all need to take! I would never grumble at a fellow cyclist who needed help.....never know when I may need it.

I think it depends on the circumstances. If its a weaker cyclist then I certainly don't mind giving them a tow. But if its a more able cyclist and your both heading the same way then why not take turns.

I had someone on wheel the other day, it was quite windy we exchanged a few words and then worked together for about 3 miles until I had turn off. Parted with a thank you and a little wave.

and that neatly sums up why people who draft without you knowing\agreeing are complete twunts.

True.

However when pompous riders wearing either club attire or replica pro-team clobber get caught they seem to take offence and put in an extended shift. To get offended and not participate in any communication they deserve to get 'drafted'.

Brings a smile to my face when they can't drop you. In similar scenarios when the rider has a chat then you can either work together against the forces of nature or enjoy a friendly gossip.

As others have said, most of the time when someone decides to draft me, it's on my commute and I find that extremely dangerous and off-putting. On these occasions I just wait for a clear piece of road and then drop them. I also don't feel I have any obligation to point out potential hazards to them, other people may object to this but I feel the other person is taking the risk, their responsibility.

Two occasions where it's useful but where I need to know the person(s) I'm with:

1. If you're into a headwind then it's very useful but everyone should take their turn (and IME they always do)
2. If someone is struggling then I'll do my best to drag them along (or as happened a few times, do my best to be dragged along when I've struggled!!!)

I can understand people not liking someone drafting in terms of not knowing how they handle a bike but does it really matter if they are getting a bit of a free ride with the wind? It isn't a race where you are trying to conserve every bit of energy and the person on your wheel will have a huge advantage by sticking there.

Riders who want to draft you and not do their turn at the front are just parasites and ignorant twat's.

Last year I was pushing hard into the wind on one of my training runs and eventually overtook someone really struggling hard against the wind with a briefcase held on their bars and as I passed I said "good morning". About 200 yards further down the road, I twigged they was on my back wheel and when I turned to look proper, they just had a big grin on their face smiling at me. That really wound me up, so as it was clear behind I turned very sharply to the right and hit my brakes to just pull up slightly behind. All of a sudden they was struggling against the wind again and as I rode along side, I smiled and said "bit windy today", the smile had gone from his face and he just grunted and at that I pulled away fast so they could not get my wheel again. Eventually I turned off and when I looked back I had to smile as the other rider who was now well behind carried straight on struggling.

I suppose another cure for an unwanted parasite on your back wheel would be to just stop pedalling and slow down if your not in a rush and see what their reactions would be. As it rarely happens to me, I have not had the opportunity to try it

Not sure if this is a tongue in cheek post or not!

If you are out on a training ride is it not more beneficial to be at the front getting the full impact of the headwind rather than going on someones wheel? The harder the effort training the greater the benefit when racing or doing a sportive (or whatever the training is for)

Anyway i'd be way too embarrassed to ever contemplate tucking in behind someone who was carrying a briefcase on their bars

i agree with zizou, the advantage of drafting one guy in front is what - 1-2kph, if that? riding and drafting in a pre-agreed group, club run or chaingang is all well and good, but ideally i prefer a clear view in the front to someone else's ar$e or rear tyre. i can not see how drafting is helping the person who is on a training ride or a commute. tougher ride now = stronger legs later

 Why do some people have a problem with drafting, have just been reading another forum and some people seem to get really upset with it, being pretty new to road riding i tend to try to keep up with the bikes in front and stay behind them for a bit, dont want to over take them and run out of steam, then they have to overtake me, if i feel i can over take and stay in front i will, i don't have a problem if i am drafted, so whats it all about.
Cheers Del.

For the same reason when i go for a walk, if someone i didn't know walked one pace behind me without saying a word, i would find it annoying and rather creepy.

And no, I am not joking, I'm deadly serious.

How do you feel when your at work and you are the muggins that has it all to do whilst your colleagues just stand or sit around watching or clearing off for smoke breaks etc, do you tolerate that. People who just want to draft you are just bloody parasites if they have nothing to offer and do not want to help with the work.

It was only on our club ride today, someone just latched on the back, no introduction or anything, just sat their, but he was not there a mile further down the road as they got well dropped as the tempo went up.

What a ridiculous point of view.
