Thinking of getting this done on a vehicle I have for work...absolute pain in the arris regening every 200/300 miles ish ! Cleaned it out, used foams in it etc but still no joy.End up going on journeys down the motorway for no reason other than using diesel.
So garage which I use says to get the ECU remapped deleting the dpf and egr, then said he will drill holes through the DPF and go back to the old days of straight through exhaust and no regens. He said it won't make any other difference to the vehicle.
Anyone any experience of doing similar

It's quite common as well as ad-blue deletes due to the problems these systems cause on diesels. Of course it pollutes more, and is a MOT failure is spotted, but if it stops a perfectly good vehicle ending in landfill.

No mot failure as mot tester is the garage I use 😁
He's actually the one who advised it.Seems odd to me that every 200/300 miles it spews smoke out regening itself, this is meant to be good for the environment! No way I'm prepared to spend 500/600 quid on a new dpf to have the same happen either.

But isn't having the old filter modified/drilled out/whatever and the software delete going to cost getting on for that anyway?
150 for the ECU/Remap and the taking off DPF and drilling out 30 quid or I do myself.
I don't do many motorway in it and I'm thinking even a new dpf I'm going to get the same again ?

Could be wrong, but I think they gut the EGR, weld it back up (where it can't be seen) then map it out. To be honest, I'd not even bother with a diesel these days unless that'd been done, though obviously only when vehicle is out of warranty.

The Glue that binds us together.
Have had one problem with the adblue injecter, taken of and cleaned 300+ miles ago, was going to have it remapped. but will see how we go. will clean dpf regulerly and use an adblue aditive stop it christalizing.

So your MOT tester is a law breaking twat.

If somebody whose entire position depends on honesty were telling me to break the law and he would ignore it when it comes to testing time, I would be VERY wary of ever doing any business with them again.

If he removes it and you get found out, that is a £1000 fine for you.

If he is fund to be passing a vehicle he knows to have had it removed, that is the end of his certification for MOT testing. As well as fines.

Need to declare to insurance as a modification?

But then they won't insure you, since it is an illegal modification.

I'm with Andy. Rather that try and bodge a diesel to make it suitable for short journeys for which it was never intended simply get one with a more suitable powerplant.

I'm also a firm believer in the old adage that ir you cant afford to maintain or repair a vehicle properly then you're driving the wrong vehicle.
