Hi there.
I have a Specialized Roll Elite Hybrid with front and rear mudguards fitted.
I only have the seatpost clip on one for the rear which work brilliantly but does not keep the downtube clear of mud.
Could someone point me in the right direction of a decent downtube mudguard?
I have drawn a red line for where I mean:-

Other than a full 'traditional' mudguard I think you'll struggle, I've got 'Flinger' clip-on mudguards on my Ridgeback but these don't cover the front mech area.

I was thinking you could get something like this and perhaps modify it with a craft knife so it doesn't catch your chain..

I asked this question about a month ago & got little/no response, although I'm sure I have seen a bike fitted with one. I think it's an area that the suppliers are missing, although I suspect it'll be difficult to provide a 1 size fits all solution hence why they are giving it a wide berth

That's the seat tube, by the way. There aren't specific guards to fit that area - could be worth looking into full guards
My mistake, the seat tube.
I saw a picture of what I am referring to on Google images the other day.
If I can find It I shall post it later.
I did think about full guards but the really wide tyres would mean the normal SKS ones I had on my previous hybrid wouldn't cope with the width of spray. Or would they?

It wouldn't do a lot, but you could mount your rear flinger higher up the seat post which would have the effect of making it hug more of the tyre towards the area you are concerned about.

I would say that's how it's designed to be mounted - the leading edge poking through the gap in the seat stays.

Like this one.
Is this a workaround using a downtube guard as suggested further up in this post?

Thanks for the words of wisdom all.
I think I will take Steve50s advice regarding the seat tube guard hack combined with Pale Rider's suggestion to move the existing guard higher up the seat tube to provide more coverage.
Thanks all.

Keeping it simple is a good idea.

The more bits of plastic you have down there, the more surfaces there are for mud to stick to and the harder it is to clean the bike.

So there's a danger of simply transferring the problem from the seat tube to the guards, or even making it worse.

Interesting spec bike, by the way.

It would be worth posting some pics and a few lines about it.

'My new bike' threads always go down well.

What is the problem with full guards ? they are the best solution the others are a bodge, a good long front one (longer than the one in the pic} will also keep your down tube clean and your feet dry, the frame looks to have mudguard eyes (? ) you just need to get the right width.

Hi Afnug.
I did want (and prefer) full cover mudguards as I know them to be the best (and my favoured) solution.
My concern was that 'normal' full cover mudguards would either A. Not Fit and B. Not provide enough coverage because of the 650B tyres.
Also, that pic you have attached shows the same bike as mine with guards designed specifically for this bike which I cannot find for love nor money, hence me going down the clip-on route.
