If I was doing it I wouldn't fit drop bars.
I'd go for a vintage style bar, butterfly, trecking bar or a porteur bar that type of thing.
Shifters I'd go for bar mounted friction thumb shifters, like we had on old MTB's , Falcon do them quite cheaply and they look it. Easy to set up the gears.
I like friction shifters and I'm considering ditching index shifting on one bike.
In fact I'm off to fleabay now to buy some! EDIT :- Couldn't find any quality ones for a reasonable price, back to gripshifts for the time being.
