This is seriously slow. The "new tests" excuse is rubbish since the CERA test was already in operation for the Tour and caught 3 riders. The only difference is the volume of samples that would need to be tested.

Lefevere is right to complain (on cyclingnews today) about the delay, but the latest positives wouldn't have been so slow to be identified if a cycling body was in charge. This shows that cycling is more alert than other sports to the gravity of doping. The fact that only a cyclist has been named so far shows how the sport is ready to confront the issue unlike some of the others.

As an aside, a positive would probably re-write his Fleche Wallonne victory and make Schleck a double Ardennais.

That's a pretty good analysis.

Or as we now say in these depressingly unimaginative cyberages,

Cycling bodies in charge of testing doesn't strike me as the best idea.

How many samples from the Giro have been retrospectively tested for CERA so far?

Why doesn't Wada go to the manufacturer (Roche for CERA)? Surely the manufactures have a social responsibility? They must know who they are selling to and what demand there is in particular areas. If a clinic/doctor appears to be using more than what could be regarded as "reasonable" then alarms should trigger and an investigation carried out.

Actually, Roche did work with WADA to develop the test. Ignore the conspiracy stories about marker molecules. By helping WADA to combat doping through test development, Roche also benefits with more positive press and CSR.
Patients in genuine need of the drug don't want the attached stigma of a doping product in their medication, so the more Roche works to denounce Micera's illegal use the better - for the pharmaceutical company, the doctor and the patient.
