I have no trouble drinking one handed from a bottle, getting the top off takes a bit more effort and I like to pour my beer into a proper glass too. The cheese and crackers can be troublesome.

I find a lot depends on the type of cheese. Cheddar is usually OK, but stilton can be properly crumbly.

Not picking a fight or anything, but how is that different to riding downhill and having a drink from your water bottle?

You've never smoked have you?

Lighting a cigarette when it's slight breezy is hard enough, lighting it one-handed whilst going downhill on a bike is another.

Actually I am a smoker.

Depends on the lighter really. These new fangled turbo flame lighter thingies really are rather the dog's nuts.

I stopped many years ago, we had to make do with Clipper or Zippo - the flame just blew in your face if there was a breeze. You 21st century smokers just got it too easy.

Ronald Reagan smoked his pipe when cycling. Cleaning them is a problem though, I understand it's tricky to knock one out on the bike.

First of all apologies to the OP for a thorough derailing of his thread.

@Moodyman - well done for giving up, but it's never too late ;)

I quit in 1997, but picked it up again last December when I was going through a difficult time personally. I don't ride and smoke however, my lungs really need to be doing something other than absorbing nicotine when I'm riding.

I used to text and ride until I got caught on the (then) Shoreditch one-way system.

Then again, when my old mate Pete wants to look at his map he

- reaches in to his jacket for his reading glasses
- takes reading glasses out of case.
- puts normal glasses on top of his head
- puts on reading glasses
- reaches in to pocket for OS map
- unfolds OS map
- consults same
- folds it back up again
- puts map back in pocket
- takes off reading glasses and puts back in case and puts case in pocket
- pulls normal glasses down in to position
