Boil it first just to be sure.

Whisky, vodka, etc.... don't go off. They only evaporate if not in a bottle that's tightly sealed.

Whisky for example when it's maturing in a cask for 8,10,12,18 years etc... will evaporate into the atmosphere and will discolour the walls of the distillery. This is known as the angels share. It is also stored outside in barrels. Unlike wine, a spirit won't develop and mature once bottled.

I would only stay clear of it if it has been exposed to real extremes in temp such as direct sunlight.

We once soaked some chillis in half a bottle of vodka to see what would happen, and took them out after a day or so. We've still got the vodka a year later, over which time it has turned into a progressively more evil shade of red. Nobody dare drink it now...not even the other half's rugby playing loon of a brother...

chilli vod is awesome, and not for the faint hearted. give it a go!

Bad couple of days on Russian bootleg vodka in Yaroslavl' in 1995 have given me a fine nose for the good stuff. If it has rainbow tints in it, someone probably made it from potatoes. Best avoided.

that'll make the best Bloody Mary in the world. Have one for with breakfast on a lazy Sunday morning.

Actually vodka is one of the few things I don't drink. 'If you can't drink it straight then don't drink it' is my motto. I've never met anyone who drinks it straight either. That coupled with the fact that I put a pile of soor plooms in a bottle to disolve for a week when I was about 18 and drank virtually the whole bottle and spewed everywhere at a party has kind of put me off it tbh!

You have now! Not particularly by choice though. We had a 'drink the bar dry' at the end of one university term. Unfortunately we drank the bar dry of mixers first so I had to move onto neat vodka:wacko:.

I used to keep a bottle in the freezer, and take the occasional slug straight from the bottle. Then I got married and was persuaded this was not A Good Thing to do.
