Lost it, got it again.
Out on my BSO, just finishing a brisk on/off 17 miler and there is a dude on a road bike up in front. Slowly catch him up and bide my time to "have him". See my spot, power up and go for it. As I edge by him slip it up to top gear and....

... chain jumps off! Typical!

why do you all get soooo excited when you "scalp" someone? is it a macho thing? Is it even a true scalp when the person you are scalping is probably just out on a leisurely ride and is probably capable of doing a lot more speed.

my mate can do 10 miles in under 18 minutes yet he often rides at my pace when he's out on his own. it wouldn't be a big deal if one of you "scalped" him and it's unlikely he'd chase you down coz it wouldn't bother him that you passed (unless you were a numpty driver, he's been known to chase them down with great success! LOL)

How do you know he wasn't pacing himself for a 50 mile ride or something?

I get riders who blast past me on the rare occasion and the difference I find there is that I either haul them back in later or, that they are likely on a 20 miler, and I am on a 60 miler+, so I pace myself accordingly.

As long as you enjoyed your ride and he enjoyed his I guess it doesn't really matter.

as Garz said, nice Shleck moment though!

Exactly.

Or usually catch them up on a piddling little incline.
