For a cheap and simple way of lifting the back of the bike to oil the chain or whatever, tie the nose of the saddle to the ceiling with a piece of clothes line or similar light rope. Leave the handlebars free and the bike will balance itself and won't fall over. For the deluxe version, fit a hook to rope to hook under the saddle. 
 
I also have one from Halfords that cost something like a tenner. OK for simple tasks and will tide you over, but I too would have got a Lidl stand in the long-term if one was available.

I just wondered if you can spin the cranks with the bike perched on you Halfords stand, I can on mine, but HLaB's stand is quite similiar and he can't...wondered if it may be a bike thing.

I can, but you do have to be 'sensible' with the speed you choose to rotate them at

My hybrid is ok on it, but with the Galaxy I have to be careful else the bottom hook fouls the spokes.
