I missed out on the Lidl bike stands the other week; "oh, they all went on Sunday", said the lady in the shop on the Monday of the "launch". Apparently people come in mithering about stuff as soon as the "Monday specials" leaflets come out so if they have them in store they sell 'em.

Anyway, does anyone have one of these?

Are they any good? And do they work for bikes with disc brakes?

Not quite the same thing are they, if you want to crawl around on your knee's repairing your bike I am sure they may be OK, personally I prefer to stand up and have things at eye level.

yeah, you're right, it's not the same, I found some better images after making the post.

I just need something cheap and small; wondered if this was it. I've seen it for as little as 11 quid.

It's worth waiting a year and then get in the shop when it open's, for most full size one's are around £60 +.I bought a revoulution for £60 from edinburgh bicycle co-operative in the sale now it retail's at £80.  I recommend you get the full size

I have a little IceToolz stand similiar to the one you link to from Halfords (£10), it just holds the bike steady with the rear wheel a few inches off of the ground. Not very stable, but acted as a spare pair of hands when cleaning, oiling the chain, adjusting the gears and such like. Pretty much anything that involved the front wheel was out of the question, but it was a lot better than nothing.

Since getting one of the Lidl workstands, it has been relegated to only being used as a prop stand and for hosing down the bike.

IMHO, it'll tide you over until the bigger stands come back around, but it will also make you wish for a proper workstand all the more.

I've something similar from minoura. They're OK for minor tasks but, they're not that stable, don't get both wheels of the ground, you can't fully spin the cranks and like said before they might not provide an optimal working height (you still have to get on your hands and knees).

Mine is the Halfords version, it has two hooks instead of the flat bracket on that one.

Not overly stable, I did think about resolving that by bolting it to a large thick peice of plywood or something to give it a large base, just haven't got round to it yet.

Looking at the pictures on that website, they're ideal if you have a £49.99 Motorworld-special MTB...

Yes it is a bit of a cheapo - but with care I have managed to do a complete rebuild of my Galaxy with it, you cant always blame the tools you know

I would like to get a proper one though.

I don't know why I am umming and ahhing to be honest

At that price, I think I'll get one and manage with it until something better turns up. Like 2loose said - it'll tide me over.

I only need it for lubing and adjusting gears.

I also have one from Halfords that cost something like a tenner. OK for simple tasks and will tide you over, but I too would have got a Lidl stand in the long-term if one was available.

5.99 from Decathlon. Perfect for displaying the bike in doors. Intended for storage, it raises the rear wheel off the floor so you can also clean/lube/adjust the drive train. No more leaning the bike against walls, scuffing saddle
