I got a cheap wireless bike computer off ebay the other week (£7) it worked fine for a couple of days (guy at decathlon fitted it when I got my new bike) but now it won't record anything at all, when I move the bike from stationary it starts but does not record anything

Any tips on what its likely to be guys ?

Does the battery need replacing? Either in the head unit, or the sender unit?

Check spacing between wheel magnet and sensor for a start, if ok, change batteries in sensor and display units.
Perhaps it only cost £7 for a good reason?

I have to check mine every time the bike has had to go into the car (wheels off) to make sure neither bit has shifted out of alignment.

As ^^^^ have said it's probably because the sensor's moved. Another possible cause might be electrical interference - have you attached any lights or GPS gubbins to the bars? I've got one that doesn't like AA batteries nearby.

Buy cheap, buy twice

FWIW Decathlon's own Btwin Count computers are very good IME.

I bought one whilst I was between GPS units and had a charity ride I needed to log that I wasn't convinced my phone battery would survive.

I bought the Count 8, and TBH it was the easiest computer I've ever had for setting up, it was a doddle.

I'd something similar back in January when I first took the bike back out after a few weeks off. Everything looked to be set up hunky dory: gap between magnet and reader/sender unit correct and a bold display on the computer itself. It just wouldn't record any new mileage. The simple solution was that the battery in the reader/sender unit needed replaced.

Greeny1210, what is the model name? May be there's a pdf manual online? That's how I found the manual for my vdo.

Another possibility. Is the computer unit fixed into the holder (if it has one) Sometimes they will not work if the contacts have not been made between the computer and holder. Just a thought.

Buy cheap, buy dear, you still have to replace the batteries. If it was used then they may be old, if new then they may have simply faded away.

There are no contacts on the wireless models, that is one of their advantages;).
Mine has. The holder which is fixed to my handlebar stem has little contacts which have to be made with the contacts on the underside of the computer to enable it to work. It is wireless.

That's strange. I can put my wireless computer in my pocket and it still records.

Before going out I generally give it a quick check. Set the computer on the table, lift the bike and spin the front wheel.
