Do you think 700c x 35 will fit this bike? (pics)

You've got,

622/2 = 311.

311 + 35 = 346.

Less half the Diameter of Axle,

346 - 5 ( to be abs sure ) = 341.

Measure this by placing a ruler across the droput lips and putting a measure tape to the chainstay bridge.

If I have measured correctly, it's 365. There is currently over 1" of clearance between the tire and the chainstay bridge.

Are you a USAF person in Lincs?

I just remembered the Trek hybrid I'm selling has 700c x 35's...  could I just swap the wheels to check and see if the tyres would fit? If not I guess I could take the tyres off an put them on the tourer's wheels.....bit of a hassle but far better than spending money on the wrong thing.

I haven't got a clue if 32mm tyres will fit or not. Just wanted to say congratulations on the new bike. Unfortunately some manufactures 32mm tyres are as wide others 35mm tyres. Watch the width of the rear wheel while you're swapping wheels. Hybrids / touring bikes can use either 130 or 135mm wide rear hubs.

Thanks! It is a lovely bike!!!  I'll post proper pictures once I've cleaned it up and replaced the mudguards/tyres.

I think the rear is 135 (Deore hub?) I will be careful, I'm not planning on riding it with the other wheels, just want to see what kind of clearance I have.

I'll probably be buying the standard Schwalbe Marathon tyres.....

Well it seems the 35's will fit, but the rims on the Trek are wider than the rims on the Woodrup. The rim doesn't say anything on it about tyre sizes, so how do I know if a 35 will fit? Will I be better off just sticking to the 32's? Is there a big difference in comfort touring on 35's vs. 32's?

The tyre is very slightly off centre. Are misaligned drop-outs something that will need sorting before I ride it at all? I would have no idea how to fix it, but Dave Yates lives a few miles away, is this something he could sort or is it a LBS thing? There is only 1 LBS here aside from Halfords, and tbh I have no idea if they are good or not....

Thanks so much for all the help and advice, I am very grateful.

You obviously didn't bother to look at the link in my earlier post. If you had bothered, you would have seen a table showing the widths of compatible tyres for your rims.

The misaligned dropouts are not crucial, but I suggested you got them sorted before you try to fit a wider tyre for obvious reasons. And yes, Im sure Dave would sort them out.

I'm really sorry Gerry, I actually had thought you forgot to put in a link, I didn't realize it was connected to the word "this".  I'm going to switch over the gatorskins from my Secteur to the Woodrup's wheels tonight so will measure the inner rim and see what size tyres it will take.

Very glad to know the forks aren't crucial - I'd like to take it for a proper test ride tomorrow, but I will call Dave on Monday to see if he will do it and what it will cost.

Thanks again!

Thanks Gerry - I would love one of Dave's bikes!  I called him a few weeks ago and it will be around £1800 for a complete nice spec'ed tourer. I'm sure it will be worth every penny, but it's way out of my price range at the moment. I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten the Woodrup at an absolute bargain price, otherwise my first tours would be on the Secteur....but someday when the money rolls in, I'd sure love a Yates!!!

The rims are the same size as the ones on my Secteur. According to the chart they should have 23-32, though it also says many people exceed this with no problems.

I think I'll stick to 32 for now unless anyone thinks 35 really will not be a problem......when I eventually buy new wheels I may go for 17mm rims rather than 15mm....

thanks again!
