Trouble is, after 14 hours riding, mental arithmetic gets a little slow and I have to stop to do a division equation ;)B)

I try to avoid mental sums as the sum of my mental is none too high to begin with; after 10 hours it is often sub-par.

When I am trying to work out how long a ride will take I add on 1 hour of wasted time per 200km.
This is stopping for a pee, reading a map, wondering if the the signpost is pointing straight on or left and putting the coat on and off as the weather oscillates

This is in addition to lunchbreak stops

I wish I could put my gilet or coat on when riding. I can just about manage to take it off

If I'm on my own I don't tend to stop on 30-40 mile rides. On 50 mile rides, depending on the route I'll stop. Did 54 miles the other day and stopped after about 30 miles for a sandwich, then about 5 miles later felt the need to stop at the top of the Suchnant Pass for an ice cream and to enjoy the views. Then a couple of miles later I stopped off for tea at my Nains (I'd just missed my opportunity for a Sunday dinner!), and a few miles after that stopped off at my dads who told me to pedal home fast and come back in the car for a barbecue. So I reserved my burger and pedalled the last 13 or so miles home really fast .

With the CTC we are always stopping, but because we go so slow it doesn't affect my legs at all and I can stop start all day. Just as well really as there is one pain in the posterior who is always pushing his bike up and down the hills (he's not a full shilling though so we make allowances for him which his mother is eternally grateful for).
