Brompton, no. Bike stays with me always. Big bike, yes. A cable lock is coiled round the seatpost all the time. I don't use it all that often though, because I only leave it to nip into shops. If the shop is big enough I take the bike in with me. If it's small enough, like a tiny newsagent or chippie, I leave it outside visible and within a few paces. Inbetweeny shops, and going inside cafes/pubs it gets locked. I normally only do that in winter though (to warm up).

I have a saddle bag on my geared bike, the lock goes in there, along with phone, tools and waterproof.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Always. Cable lock coiled through saddle rails around/under seatpack . Insurance specifies lock at all times - doesn't specify lock standard however. Anyway on club rides always better bikes than mine left completely unlocked (can't understand it!) So think my simple lock is deterrent to opportunists.

If planning to stop (99% of the time) Usually have a d lock in pannier if on tourer or flatbar...if on SS or carbon not but ride buddy will do

Stops more important part of cycling than speed for me

I have the same type of lock as @ianrauk - useful thief-deterrent for cafe and/or toilet stops, but I wouldn't want to leave my bike out of sight for long with such flimsy protection.
Nor me. I don't really like having a D lock weighing a kilo on my bike all the time, add water bottle, tools, pump and spare tube and you wonder why saving a few grams for dura or ultegra should matter to non racers....
But until I reach the point where I can't lose another kilo off my lardy self it will stay where it is.
If I ever hit 64 kg myself I'll worry about it.

I've seen any kind of cable gone through in less than a second with cutters so they don't fill me with confidence. Sure a D lock can be defeated too, but you are buying time via thieving inconvenience.

-font-b-Safeman-b-font-anti-theft-font-b-lock-b-font-travel-font-b.jpg I bought one of these from Aldi a few years ago. Keep forgetting take it with me. Don't stop really but should put in Jersey pocket. I've always got the key with me as garage and lock keys are on leather thong round my neck. Always have D Lock if I take, either, panniered bike to shops.

Well those replies were enlightening.
I certainly wont be putting a D lock on my nice carbon frame but will definitely invest in one of those lightweight jobbies.
I will only ever leave it while nipping into a cage to order....but will never leave it for extended periods.
