Do wasps damage buildings?

UPDATE: I've now heard mice above my bathroom ceiling. It seems like they have discovered a rich source of protein and will solve my wasp problem for me.

I shouldn't be so sure. The scratching you've heard might be the wasps eating the plaster ceiling. If it is mice they are fussy about what they eat unlike rats so might be difficult to get rid of.
