Blocking the entrance is not recommended since the wasps will force another exit, you need to get the entrance point sprayed with pesticide. The nest will then die off and it will make no difference whether the nest is physically removed or left in place.

Okay you win  I'm just being a sissy

With the reaction you've already had to being stung there's a good chance that next time you're stung you'll have a similar reaction to me.

Well, write it down boy ......
I had a nest in my old house which was huge - about four feet top to bottom and two across. I've got a photo somewhere but it's not digital so I'll photo and post it up. Luckily it was empty when I cleared it out and the wasps never did come back, which surprised me a little.

Im pretty sure the bug killer I hired said that Wasps never return to an old nest.

They will eat through plasterboard, we had a nest in a ceiling, they ate through to the paint which was over the lining paper and then stopped, but it meant you could actually see them moving through the thickness of the paint.

If they are doing little harm, best to leave them alone, they will move out/die off at the end of summer.
Then cover the entrances in ant powder for a few days before you seal off all the entrances

I pointed out one of those big roof-mounted adverts on a parked van to my daughter (who'd been having bother with a wasp nest at her place).
The sign had a mobile number and read "Wasps destroyed - £30".

She looked at me aghast and said, "Each?!"

She's normally a very clever woman...

That's probably the 'scratching' that I can hear. If they do eat through it they'll get a dose of wasp killer, this is a first-floor roof so it's not easy to access from the ground. At least they're not damaging anything structural.

I got stung on the nose this morning by what I presume was a wasp, as I didn't actually see it, but I could currently get the lead role without the need for make up if they quickly decide to do another film about John Merrick

UPDATE: I've now heard mice above my bathroom ceiling. It seems like they have discovered a rich source of protein and will solve my wasp problem for me.
