Do Tiagra and Apex work the same way!

I used to have a Carrera Vanquish with a Tiagra groupset but alas it died when I had a head on with a bus so I am looking to upgrade to a Felt F6 with an Sram Apex groupset.
My question is does the brake and gear lever on these groupsets work the same as in they both push to the left to change gear or are Sram different to Shimano!

Sram is a "double tap" lever, you push the same lever behind the brake lever to change both up and down, whereas Tiagra uses the brake lever and the lever behind it to change. So slightly different. They are compatible in the sense the amount of pull each shift exerts on the cable is the same so mech cassettes and chains should interchange. Although Sram can take a larger rear cassette than a Shimano road cassette. Brakes should be fine as well.

In case there is any misunderstanding only cassette and chain are generally interchangeable between sram and Shimano. Their shifter/derailleur cable pull are different for indexing purpose (except for some lower end flat bar sram units, which are Shimano compatible in terms of cable pull).

Its different to be sure ..

I ride a virtuoso all week and when i get on my nice bike with sram shifters i keep trying to press the non existent button to shift gear .

Double tap is a bit like marmite , you will either like it or loathe it , personally i am not over keen on the shift action but i love the wide gear range that sram apex offers as when i was on a club run we hit a really steep hill that i was able to spin up using my 32 tooth sprocket and then spent maybe 5 minutes waiting for the stragglers.

If you like the thumb button action you could do worse than look at campagnolo equipped bikes that have a similar set up to the TDF shifter but the button is lower down so you can reach it from the drops as well.

I have tried tiagra and i was not keen on it tbh
