Do Road shoes really make much difference ?

And a lot of it depends on what level of cycling you do. If you're planning to compete in the Tour this year then I would think the best road shoes are obligatory.

But if you're an average rider like me I doubt you would notice much difference. I've had both, currently I wear road shoes because that's what I decided to buy when my MTB shoes wore out, and I haven't noticed a whole lot of difference. Then again I suppose if you're comparing bottom end MTB shoes with top end road shoes there might be a noticable difference, perhaps in the flex in the sole. But for me comfort is the main consideration.

But comparing like-for-like, as an average rider, I doubt you'd notice a lot of difference, except for the possibility of slipping and falling over in the coffee shop wearing road shoes and looking like a complete........................
