For the last three year since i started cycling again i feel like my saddle height is spot on, feels good and no problems at all.
Over the last year though i have raised my saddle three times approx 10mm each time, lifting it 30mm i would have thought would feel odd but still feels correct.

SO do legs get longer, or is it the muscles that are stretching , or is it all in the head.

None of the above. It's natural for those new to cycling to have the saddle position set lower then it should be. The more experienced you become at cycling and riding the higher your saddle goes until it reaches the pivotal spot that is correct for you and your bike.

Have you checked that the saddle isn't slowly slipping down? You might be just putting it back to where it started from!

Thought of that one last year , so i put a small piece of tape on the post to make sure it was not slipping down, and sure enough it was in the exact same place as when i put it on.

Are you sure the tape didn't slip down too? Especially if you've greased the seat post like you're supposed to......
