I had one of these gyms for years , big heavy box section steel that took up a lot of space and no where in the house for it .

Although i still used it as it got buried under kids bikes etc etc in the shed i found it was so much hassle that i did not bother so i have gone for a combination of a couple of dumbells, a pull up/press up bar, resistance bands and good old body weight exercises to target what i feel i need .

when I get round to it I use a Swiss ball (for core strength), two 4lb and one 8lb kettlebells and a skipping rope for my home gym work out.

I can't put in any effort at home, too easily distracted, plus.................I'm bone idle. I take a Jan-March gym membership when the weather is bad and the effort I put in lasts all year. £69 for all the weights, rowers, bikes and a sauna is great value.

With shift work its hard for me to get to a gym and as an ex qualified instructor i have a good idea of what to do , i only left the industry as at the time the wages were poor considering i was doing 15 hour days 6 days a week .

There can't be much cash in the industry, 10 years ago I was paying £50 a month, now the same gym is £200 per annum! I have 8 gyms within a two mile radius to choose from.

I used to have a bench and weights, the just the weights, and now just the pull up bar.

It's not as useful for hanging things on, but it takes up a lot less space in the corner of the spare room.

I think you've absolutely made the right decision.

Can I have the multi- gym please! ;)
I might take you up on that if my new routine works for me
Is it worth starting free weights ?

Would like a bit more strength and tone up a bit.

Thanks
Free weights are ok but you can target most things with "bodyweight " exercises , my current favourite for the back/lats is australian push ups using the kids swing cross bar
