Still roughly the same. I am not too bad going from the Carlisle end, legally the trains on the Tyne valley line can only carry four bikes at a time on the first come first served principle but a lot of guards shove on as many as they dare. I would avoid travelling West on that line on a Saturday afternoon as a lot of C2C people use it to get towards Whitehaven and Workington. It is slightly different on main line and all the company's are different but basically insist on advance booking. For instance on Virgin you must book at least an hour in advance of travelling. Seems rather strange, the government is trying to promote cycling but the trains are a lot worse for cyclists than they were 20 years ago before privatization.
