My rear brake is continually rubbbing against the disc and although it doesnt appear to be causing any fiction.
I have checked the pads and given them a light rub with fine sandpaper, cleaned the caliper etc. I have also re aligned the brake by holding the brake lever whilst tightening the caliper without success.
The disc appears fine with no buckle etc.
I have noticed what appears to be an adjusting screw but unsure if this would help without knowing for sure and as this screw also has what appears to be a "star" type washer.
They are shimano disc / brakes on a scott hybrid if any help.

Thank you in advance for any suggesions

I think this screw is for bleeding the brakes. Its not an adjusting screw like you would find on your deraileur.

I wouldnt play with it unless you have the kit required for bleeding.

There are a couple of threads (some recent) about adjusting disc brakes. I dont have the time right now to link them, but they should be pretty easy to find. I've posted in a few of them.

Failing that, someone will probably be along with (more?) expert advice soon

(note: could be completely wrong in all I say)

Do you know the exact model of the brakes?

I think there are two types hydraulic and mechanical. Mechanical normally have a screw thing on the side to adjust the pads (as they get misaligned and rub as you describe).

Hydraulic occasionally need to be 'reset' for use of a better word. That's normally covered in the instructions which can be found with the model number via google.
