Dirney Bike ?

I was asked yesterday "does that little bike on the track, not cause fumes for the cyclists and why does it still have to pedal if it has a motor?"

My response "it's the Dirney bike and its electric and I believe it provides a more smooth acceleration."

a) Is it spelt that way?

It does have an Electric Motor doesn't it?

c) The pedals do provide a more smooth acceleration pattern, don't they?

You can see the exhaust pipe at the bottom of it under the bottom bracket.

It's a derny.

Edit: Don't know about the pedals, you do get roadgoing mopeds with pedals...hence the name what what they add I don't know unless it's to help with the start or initial acceleration.

It's spelt "Derney" and it does have a petrol engine. As far as I know, the throttle is controlled by the pedalling rate.

I've signed up to volunteer at 2012 and I was thinking the role I'd like most would be to dress like a ninja and drive the little motorbike!! That must be the best role at the velodrome!!
