Hi,
Please excuse my naievity. I have a specialized mountain bike with specialized tyres. the sizes are 26" x 2.10".
Im looking to change these to hybrid/amadillo tyres, as i ride sometimes along the canal, mostly road. What sizes am I after? What does the 2.10 mean? Cant find hybirds marked as 26 x 2.10. Is this the width of tyre and the hybrids are narrower?? What about the rim width of the wheel, they will need to fit this too i guess!!
Also, where do i get the most reasonable deal, dont need the best ones, just average price .
Cheers everyone

It's the width, yes. Slick tyres for MTBs are often slightly narrower than knobblies. And you needn't worry about rim width unless you are trying to fit some ridiculously narrow or ridiculously wide tyre.

There are plenty of good tyres out there - I always used to use Panaracer Pasela and then Schwalbe Marathons with the kevlar layer, which are seriously good for puncture protection, and look here on Wiggle - 1.75" Marathon Kevlars on sale for only 9 quid. So what if they are the 'old tread'. Get 'em while you can, I say.

Sounds like you want to switch from a knobbly, pure offroad tyre to a smoother road/path type of tyre. Yes, 2.1 is the width of the tyre and while most hybrid/slick tyres run a lot narrower there's still a couple that run 2.5" across.

You shouldn't have a problem fitting any 26" tyre to your rims, just stay away from the extremes like really skinny (< 1") or really fat (> 2.5").

Best deals are usually found online like these at chainreactioncycles...

... and at also Evans, Wiggle, etc.

But check out your local bike shop 'cos they may have a deal/sale on tyres.

If you jump from your 2.1" tyres to something 1.5" or less or may want to switch out inner tubes as well.

26 x 1.75 is a good all round size for road and light off-road such as paths etc.
You should be able to re-use existing tubes as they generrally cover a range of sizes 1.5 to 2.10.
As for good deals, SJS Cycles, ChainReaction and many other bicycle retailers have good offers. Also of course Ebay. Most sellers are more than happy to answer questions on specific types.
For tubes have a look in Wilkinsons or Asda for budget prices.
Welcome to the board & good riding!

Hi,
thanks for all your replies. Just ordered 2 hybrids from wiggle. Thought the 2.1 was width, but best to check. Never too old to learn. Thanks again. No more punctures now!!!!!! LOL

Those are 20" tyres FM.

If you have ordered the 20x1.75 tyres then you will want to cancel as they are for much smaller wheels.

If you are ordering tyres, you are looking for ones that are marked something like 26x1.75 (decimals not fractions). Your bike will probably have rims that will take tyres between about 26x1.5 and about 26x2.4.
