I'm after a 14 teeth smallest/locking outer sprocket for my mid 80s MTB 6 speed Uniglide cassette (M730 Deore/MT60 ). They seem to be very elusive. However, a cheap, new 8 speed Uniglide cassette has come up. Will the 14 teeth smallest/locking sprocket on this 8 speeder be the same as the one on my 6 speed?

All other sprockets on the UG cassette have spacers, but the smallest sprockets have an integral raised shoulder to act as spacer between it and the second sprocket? Is the shoulder on 6 and 8 speeds the same thickness?

No. No. But you may get away with it using the limit screw with care.

(As you know) you are screwing the smallest (threaded) sprocket to secure the UG cassette. Because you'd be applying torque not sure how that thin a spacer would manage - between the narrower (ie 8sp) shoulder and the next larger sprocket. You'd need a 0.6mm spacer and don't think you'll find one easily. Could use a 1mm spacer (readily available), but would not be much better (+0.4 instead of -0.4) and it would screw the workaround (qv).
But I think the workaround I suggested: use the limit screw on the final click (to limit the RD from going the full 5.5mm - the centre of the 8sp sprocket will be 5mm from the centre of the next smallest 6sp sprocket - is your best chance.
