According to the Cyclechat Twitter account it was down from 9am to 3pm, but it didn't come back up for me until somewhere between 20:37 and 22:31.

Yes, it was fairly late evening before I was able to access it.

At 20.31 I tried to log in.
At 20.35 I guessed the site was down, so I messaged @Scoosh who took till 21.50 to answer me
Immediately, he notified @Shaun who at 21.57 had it fixed

That's because Scoosh was in Newcastle having his brain MRI scanned.
2 scans were done. I was assured all was in order.

I had assumed that there would be a process running in the background checking that the site is okay, and automatically sending @Shaun a message if it isn't.

Actually, it would be better the other way round in case that process were to crash too. Send a message regularly as long as all is well. If those messages stop, something is NOT!
