I charge mine when the front mech no longer shifts as this stops working first.

There is a Lithium Ion "cliff" and the voltage isn't linear to capacity left so it's all down to how well you trust they've designed the indication system!.

On my ebike battery for instance I get 40 miles still showing half full then it drops rapidly over the next 10 to 15 miles..

Charged mine on a 1000 miles for the first time.

Grant, just remember to check the charging levels...if it goes flat you are pretty much stuck in one gear - not helpful in hardly flat Wales.

Only happened to me once, when I accidentally leant the bike up against a wall at work with the left shifter pressed against the wall. Battery went from 85% to 0% before I came to ride home - 40Kms of undulating ride in one gear. The 'wrong' one of course. Lesson learned. Be careful how you park the bike
