Thanks folks - maybe I am trying too much - I might look at some new tyres and see what they do for me - I can always swap back if I do some off road. Thanks for all the support.

I've never seen that site before - cool

Hi Ian, I started out 3 years ago on a 2nd hand MTB with knobbly tyres, did Pedal for Scotland on it (50 miles) - it'll certainly toughen your legs up! Don't stress it, as others have said just get out and ride and save your cash. @ShooglyDougie rocks up to CC Ecosse rides on his MTB and puts the rest of us to shame, he did 100+ miles on it last time out IIRC.

Thanks Both - looks like I just need to chill and enjoy the ride as much as anything

You guys rock. Just put some thinner tyres on (not too much heading into winter), and tried to take into account this cadnce thingy. Basically rather than slowing down on hills but staying in same gear, I've been using gears more. Just done a great 10 miles - not my fastest because of the route I took, but much more comfortable and enjoyable, and could have kept going. Will do my normal route next week, and reckon I'll beat my personal best no problem. Thank you all - it's amazing what you can learn with a great group of people!! (That means you :hyper:)

Well you guys certainly Rock - just done my normal route, where I normally average 11mph, and my stats have gone through the roof. 3 personal bests:

These were my stats last week:

And these are my new stats on the same route

That is with a change in tyres (2.0 down to 1.75 - didn't want to go too far because of winter), and using my gears better - pedaling faster in lower gear up hill. All I can say is thank you.

Just out of interest, what tyres did you go for?

Well done on the stats - you'll see the average continue to grow too.

I bought these - seemed a decent price - wasn't really sure what to go for.

I had these on an old hybrid I used to own. I thought they rolled along quite nicely.
