as in my other thread I'm swapping newer bike parts onto an old frame, but I've hit a stumbling block.

The old bike has an old shimano sis 6 speed rear, but the mounting is different to the shimano Altus setup I'm trying to fit. It's going from 6 spd rear to 7 spd.

Will the original sis derailleur work with a 7 spd cassette or will I need a new derailleur. The Altus seems to fit as part of the frame as opposed to being as an add on to the frame if that makes sense.

The original should still work. 6/7 speed has similar cable pull. Does the altus have built in hanger - you may be able to remove it.

Yeah I can remove the hanger on the Altus, but I've no idea what to replace it with as the sis has the hanger built in. Trying to get all this done by Monday for swmbo to come cycling with me lol

I'm going to be using trigger shifters, will this affect the sis derailleur if I use that one for now?

The donor bike has a recess where the hanger sat, but the receiving frame just seems to bolt it onto the side of the frame.

It's ok, I can't fit the rear wheel in so thinking of swapping the tyre on the rear wheel and using that with the rear mech and making it an 18spd instead of 21 spd lol
