derailleur hanger out of line.....is it a shop job.

As the title says, is this something anyone can do or is it just £20 in the shop?

Dropped the bike in the living room and now in the second lowest gear the bottom of the hanger is touching the spokes.

Unless you own the correct tool or are prepared to use another wheel bolted into the ream hanger then the answer is too the shop it is.

£40/45 max at a guess .. New hangers up to £20 roughly
Easy Job to do if your know your way around a bike

What I would say if you are local to me pop it around and I will adjust it for you, it may need a new one though.

The tool is well worth spending on tbh. This can happen randomly and often no need for a new hanger. Sometimes, yes, but need the tool to align even a new one perfectly.

You may need a new un (depends on the frame and on how much it has bent or get one of these.

With a steel frame and integral hanger it's easy enough, with a little care, to straighten it with an adjustable spanner. You can of course do similarly with a replaceable one, but, as they're aluminium, there's a risk of fracture, so best to order a replacement (it's a good idea to have a spare anyway).

A new one will still need aligning correctly with the tool, bike shops do this as a matter of course when fitting a new un (takes about 3 minutes to do)

I assumed a bolt-on replacement would be aligned unless the frame was bent. Certainly I've replaced hangers without a problem. They're not so easy as steel to straighten accurately without the proper tool, though.
