I'm currently making a few changes to the Defy, making a more 'everyday' bike.

I have searched the forum and google and have found no absolute answer to which mudguards will fit best (mine is a 2011). As the bike has all the eyelets, I favour the actual 'Giant' guards but then SKS have many favourable reviews above the Giants'.

Has anyone actually fitted/rode a Defy with guards who could advise me please?

I have a Defy2 and only ever managed to get a pair of crudguards to fit, I've tried some SKS guards but there wasn't enough clearance under the brakes, although SKS do have some guards designed to fit around the defy brakes.

Giant stores sell specific mudguards which should fit (but get them to do it). I have Crud Mk 2's on a 2012 Avail 2, but they are flimsy IMO and rub and squeak on the 25mm tyres

Nothing else would fit

I have a 2010 Defy 2, and use Crud MK2s. Used them over winter last year, and they were spot on. One assembled, easy to fit and remove.

I should add I run 23c tyres, you might run into clearance issues if using wider tyres.

I use the Giant mudguards with 23c tyres on my Defy 2. No problem fitting them at all. You need to be careful to keep them straight as you do up the brake bolts, and experiment with the rear stays to get the best fit.

They do rattle a little over rough roads but all mudguards I have used have been the same.

Thanks all, I popped into the bike shop today (Giant dealers...where I bought the bike) and they unsurprisingly recommended the Giant guards so I took the chance and got them. I'll let you know how I get on with the fitting :surrender:

Ok. They are on!

Took a while and patience but seem like the right thing for the job (VERY tight fitting, but they do fit)

Look good....can barely see them!
