Because even the poverty spec Defys are neutral handling, lively, very nicely finished and all day comfortable. You could spend double on a Boardman roadie dripping in bling that still won't tick those 4 boxes.

When Boardman bikes appeared a decade ago they were a revelation. Since then the lower end road bike marked has advanced greatly, and what was once largely in a class of its own is today often out classed, and often by cheaper machinery at that.

Interesting point of view, but I disagree completely - Boardmans are great value for money,

The mind boggles that you can have so much dislike towards Boardman bikes yet you suggest the cheapest, no-name component filled bike around... with notoriously bad wheels.

How exactly do you think the low end bike market has advanced? To me it seems you are getting less for your money each and every year, especially with the release of Shimano Claris.

If you are trying to be a bike snob, you are failing... miserably.

I have a colleague in work who has a caad8 54 cm for sale, but will have to sell mine first. He said he is in no rush, but I am , the pain I'm in after my ride on the defy on Sunday, side, back, down my leg, knee, I won't be on that again .
I would imagine a 54 Caad would be spot on, I have one and am an inch or so shorter than you

Hi all,
Quick update on the situation, well I havnt been on the bike since that first 17 mile test ride, I have been trying to sell it so I could then buy another bike, a sale wasn't very forthcoming, so I thought today I'm going to seek some sizing advice, instead of nearly giving the bike away at a knockdown price, I'm I so glad I did, I rang my local cycle surgery store ( who sell Giants amongst other makes ) and explained my concerns, and the chap said although we don't do bike fits, feel free to bring it in , and we will have a look at you on the bike, so this I did, and they did the basics, seat height, reach, leg position on bottom pedal stroke, knee over centre of pedal @ 3 o'clock pedal position, and according to them, I look fine on the bike, and not a problem, so I am now very pleased that a giveaway sale is now not needed, and I can concentrate on getting out and putting some miles on it. I would like to thank all the above people who replied with advice and guidance on this matter.

Regards
Tony.
A happy giant defy 2 owner. ^_^

A got my Defy 1 fitted for me, after a couple of months of trialling positions. Best thing I ever did. Scheduled a fit for my Bianchi before I had even ridden it. Wouldn't ever be something I would omit from buying a new bike from here on!
