I would echo what banjo says, I started again properly this spring (after years of very occasional cycling, mostly to the shop and back!) my first rides were about 5 miles and were a struggle, now I freguently do 20 and recently did 50 in one day, and hills that I used to really find hard, I don't even notice now.

Kepp it up, I have lost 20 pounds with the help of cycling and intend to lose more.

Cheers Tim

....first ride today after 20 years away from bikes (little or no other excersize). Managed a staggering 3.6 miles!!! How embarrasing. Still, got to start somewhere...it was great to get back out and my new bike felt fantastic.

Looking forward to my fitness level improving ;)

fantastic well done. its not the mileage that counts its the fact that you finaly got out on your bike and remembered how brilliant it is to be out there on your bike.
Welcome to the forums . We will expect to hear more about your progress so don't be shy post away:biggrin:

Lost 3 stone in weight in 3 years.

3 Down, 3 to go Ian! ;)

Seriously well done BarryP, as some have said a start is a start! There are some really encouraging success stories on here and a great bunch generally.

3.7 miles is better than 2.7 miles and believe it or not by slowly and gently increasing this you will soon be dispatching 30 - 40 milers at weekends without a second thought. Main thing is enjoy yourself go at your own pace and it will come.

Another newbie taking his 1st pedal strokes into the world of cycling. Not been on a bike for a few years and managed to go once around the village green, 1/4 mile or so.Not far but its a start. I forgot how scary it is being on a bike again.

Hey well done. Like has been said, you made a start. I remember my first post on here,

"I got my bike out after 34 years" well that was about five weeks ago now and I have gradually built my distance up to 40 miles.

You will soon be there, but as has been said, remember to take rest days too

Oh and don't let the British weather put you off, it is nice sometimes cycling in the rain ( headwind not so good though

keep us posted

I wobbled about two miles on my first ride a year and a half ago, now I do more that 100 miles a week. Well done for not going too far too soon, I went all the way to work (10 miles) too soon and in the wrong clothing and actually cried a bit on the way home because my legs hurt so much!
