I've acquired this for next to nothing ,though not strictly vintage I thought there may be someone on here with some knowledge of Galaxy's.
I've found a catalogue on line for 2009 and this matches the specs exactly with many of the components on mine it's the same colour as the one pictured in the catalogue too , they used to produce Galaxy's with a different colour every year so you could date them from the colour, did this still happen in 2009.
Frame number F08504390 on the b/b , it's had a rough old life with lots of use and abuse and had been partially stripped before I got it , there is mudguards and back wheel with it too.
So does anyone agree about my suspected age of this Galaxy.

@ren531 looks about right.
And date codes on any components if original to help confirm your theory.

Couldn't find any dates on anything, but going to strip it and clean it up so might find some, I find it hard to understand why anyone would buy what would have been a very nice bike and treat it so badly. Going to make something out of it really like the colour and the fact that it has all silver alloy components.

Frame number suggest 1990, last 2 digits of the number, but looks like it was customised to previous owners spec with that Quill to A-head adaptor those handlebars and 'bar end' shifters

I did initially think it was an older bike mainly due to the silver alloy components but the specifications for the 2009 match mine, the component numbers for the bar ends, front derailleur, crank set are the same and has the same bars , b/b, Tektro oryx canti brakes and the Reynolds 631 frame , this is the 2009 catalogue photo.
There was also a second number on the b/b that was less obvious than the other 80509054

Have you tried Dawes for a date from the frame number? Older records went up in smoke, but the 2000’s might be there. If not, there should be date stamps on the hubs and brake calipers.
Bike Radar has a piece on the 2009 range, but they seem to have ‘compact’ frames, ‘flared’ seat stays and a head badge rather than a sticker?

Dawes did a ‘classic’ Galaxy in 2016 - you might want to look at that.
Good luck!

Canti brakes were used until around mid 90's, and V-brakes after that. Think this is true for MTBs, but can't speak for road bikes.
Had to really think about that, calling them 'road bikes' - my immediate reaction is to call them racers.

Canto brakes were around much later on tourers I believe until they went to disc brakes?

One thing that might make it look older than it actually is, the rubber hoods on the brake levers have been removed, so they weren't originally plain silver alloy .

Just had a look at the Dawes heritage site and up to 1994 the Galaxy was 531 and round down tube , whereas mine is 631 and ovalised down tube, not sure when this changed but I'm thinking into the 2000s

Found what could be a date code on the brake arms , a circle with 08 or 80 in it . It has a head badge and slightly flared seat tubes and by "compact" do you mean sloping top tube, this has sloping top tube.
